When a 90-year-old woman went missing, investigators knew who they needed to call. They reached out to Officer Saby, the four-legged K9 wonder dog who has a nose that just won’t quit.

According to ABC News, Loudell Hubbard, a 90-year-old woman, went missing from her home in Birmingham, Alabama. Lost for more than twelve hours, the elderly woman was out all night.

A search and rescue operation was launched. A team looked for Hubbard for more than twelve hours. Thanks to Officer Saby, she was found cold and wet in a creek bed where she slept through the night, using her purse as a pillow.

Officer Saby led Richard Wright and Dustin Brock, two officers in the Birmingham Police SRT K9 Unit, right to Hubbard. The officers credit the K9 for saving the woman’s life.

“It’s impossible for us to duplicate what he does and do his job as fast as he does,” officer Dustin Brock said.

Hubbard suffers from dementia and apparently wondered a mile and a half from her home and into the woods. She couldn’t remember how to get back or how she got there. It is believed that she stumbled into the creek and was too weak and confused to climb out. She had also left her cane at home.

About finding her, Officer Brock said:

“The same time Richard came around the corner Saby was pulling me towards the creek. I come around and she was laying in the creek.”

Wright said, “I yelled ‘Ma’am can you hear me?’ She raised her head up and then we just went to her.”

Her neighbor, Frederick Jones, was very thankful that she was found alive and says he kept the faith that she’d be found. And when she was rescued, he says it was glorious.

“At the time everyone was still hopeful. They had faith and was positive,” Jones said. “Joy. It was joy. Everybody was just elated. Everybody was thanking God and just elated. Really it brought tears to your eyes that she was ok.”

Officer Wright said:

“When we got the call I was thinking if it was my grandmother I would hope someone would use all resources to go find her.”

Jones pointed to the Bible for how and why looking out for each other is important. “The scripture tells us to love thy neighbor as thy self. That’s where we are with this.”

Thanks to Officer Saby for being such a good dog as well as her search and rescue team. Hubbard is now at a local hospital and doesn’t have any serious injuries.
